Maritime Day dinner and program with featured speaker F. Brooks Royster III, Executive Director, Maryland Port Administration. Awards will be presented to Merchant Marine Veterans who have served us well in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. Merchant Marine Veterans with service in more contemporary conflicts will also be honored.

"Securing Seafarer Welfare: The Ship and Her People - Crewing in the 21st Century" Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton commented on increased opportunities for U.S mariners due to growth in international trade at the same time as a global shortage of licensed mariners. The speakers discussed changes in the 21st Century shipping environment focussing on demand, supply, challenges and opportunities.

US Navy, Commander U.S. Military Sealift Command RADM Robert D Riley Jr. recognized the contributions of the American Merchant Marine, “merchant mariners have been a crucial part of our security and prosperity since the beginning of our nation, part of a tradition and service and patriotism, an unbroken circle of heroes”. Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton added his commendation of American mariners and gave a brief but compelling history of the U.S maritime industry since the birth of our nation.

USMMA-AF Chesapeake Chapter Dinner Program commerating National Maritime Day. Guests included Brooks Royster, Executive Director of the Maryland Port Administration, and Congressman Elijah Cummings (MD, 7th District), Chairman of the House Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee.
